Notes¶
The Municipal Districts dataset use in PMS is created from a combination of Mds and LEA boundaries, as seen in the below image. The reason for this is explained in below section.

Cork City Council does not have Municipal Districts currently, nor is it a municipal district in itself. It is a city council having 5 LEAs.
Dublin City, Fingal, South Dublin and DLR are not - nor have, Municipal Districts. They contain only Local Electoral Areas.
Galway City Council (a Local Authority) does not have Municipal Districts currently, nor is it a municipal district in itself. It is a city council having 3 LEAs.
Clonmel, Drogheda, Sligo and Wexford are Borough Districts. These are not related to the old borough council boundary areas, the term Borough District is used for a municipal district containing a (former) borough council.
Waterford and Limerick are Metropolitan Districts. The term Metropolitan District is used for a municipal district containing a former city council.
