  • Cork City Council does not have Municipal Districts currently, nor is it a municipal district in itself. It is a city council having 5 LEAs.

  • Dublin City, Fingal, South Dublin and DLR are not - nor have, Municipal Districts. They contain only Local Electoral Areas.

  • Galway City Council (a Local Authority) does not have Municipal Districts currently, nor is it a municipal district in itself. It is a city council having 3 LEAs.

  • Clonmel, Drogheda, Sligo and Wexford are Borough Districts. These are not related to the old borough council boundary areas, the term Borough District is used for a municipal district containing a (former) borough council.

  • Waterford and Limerick are Metropolitan Districts. The term Metropolitan District is used for a municipal district containing a former city council.
