PMS 5.5.5 Release Notes

Released 10/12/2022

The 5.5.5 updates the PMS database to the Q1 2022 OSi Prime2 road network - with 12 months worth of road updates. The previous road network update was part of the PMS 5.2 Release Notes which updated PMS to the Q1 2021 OSi road network.

Prime2 Updates

The Prime2 road network update involves mapping 354,387 old edges from 2021 (including edges added from MapRoad and LAs) to 357,460 new Prime2 edges, based on the March 2022 version of OSi’s Prime2. This is 1 year’s worth of network updates and changes.

In addition to updating to the latest version of Prime2, 122 Public Private Splits were processed and applied to the road network.

Missing Edges will be reviewed and added directly to the network as part of the PMS 6.0 release planned for January 2023, and so have not been reviewed and added to the network as part of this update.

283,072 of the current edges have associated data from up to 13 different datasets (segment codes, PSCI, speed limits etc.). This round of Prime2 updates will add 164 Km of road network and a total of 2,012 new edges. Full details are shown in the table below:

Transfer Process

Old edges that route to 1 or more new edges and have <5m of difference in length are automatically transferred. This leaves all roads that have been modified since 2021 to review, and in many cases the default route needs to be adjusted using configuration files and Python scripts.

Each LA is reviewed by one analyst and then a final review/check is carried out by a separate team member to provide an additional level of checks. The table below provides a breakdown of edges that required manual intervention to map to the new network.

Legacy Segments

If network updates cause breaks in segments (segments must be collections of contiguous edges), then their edges may be removed and the segment has no geometry/length and is designated as a Legacy Segments.

An example from this update is the L-60131-2 in Offaly. In this case it was due to a Public/Private split being created on the underlying edge. The split was at the very start of L-60131-2 which lead to it being removed completely.

Each LA can filter their Road Schedule grids by Legacy Segments to review and clean-up these legacy segments.
