LGA Urban Speed Zone Imports

The national default for an urban area (as defined by borough and town councils) is 50km/hr. In the same way as the national default for a regional road is 80km/hr.

The application of 50km National Defaults to these zones is a one-off exercise, MapRoad edited road segments in future will not be automatically assigned 50km national default if they fall within these zones.

If a user corrects any invalid geometries or registered any existing unregistered roads in MapRoad, we advise that they also create National Default 50km speed limits for those segments in PMS also.

Import Details

These features were imported on the 04/09/2015. A total of 113 features were imported. As multipart polygons could not be imported

Some urban areas had already been added to the Pavement Management System, and these take precedence over the automated import.

Do we have a list of ones not added as already present?

Notes:

  • All roads within the zones are classified as “National Default” speed limits and given a value of 50 Km/h.

  • The “Date Commenced” field is set to 01/01/1900. Technically the Date Commenced relates to specific Acts whereby the town council was set up or enacted, however these details are unavailable. They can be set individually by editing the zone if necessary.

  • No expiry date is set for these speed limits, but any subsequent byelaws will take priority and the 50 Km/h limit will become a historical record.

  • A 5m buffer was added to the zone polygon to make sure that roads running along the edge of the polygon had the 50 Km/h speed limit applied. Several of the edges of the polygons are defined by roads, so these need to be included.
