Data gathered using the MapRoad Mobile PSCI App or the Desktop Module for the Pavement Surface Condition Index (PSCI).
PSCI rating system is a simplified pavement inspection methodology used to evaluate the condition of Regional and Local Roads in Ireland.
The PSCI system is outlined in the Rural Flexible Roads Manual published by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport. The manual describes types of
defects for Irish roads and provides a simple 1 to 10 scale based on pavement defects to visually rate pavement surface condition.
Valid Survey: R, LP and LS roads that have been rated within 2 year period from the current date. LT roads rated within 5 year period from the current date.
No Valid Survey: Roads included in the road schedule that fall outside the criteria for Valid.
Optional: All Motorways, National Primary and National Secondary Roads or any roads not included in the Road Schedule.
Compliant: All R, LP and LS roads within 2 year period and LT roads within 5 year period from a reference date of the 30th November of the current year.
Not Compliant: All R, LP, LS and LT roads that do not meet the criteria for Compliant or which have not yet received a PSCI survey.
Outside Compliance: Road that do not meet the criteria for Compliant or Not Compliant and have been not been marked for Road Schedule inclusion.
Both PSCI Rating layers can be filtered by Rating, Road Class, Municipal District, Engineers Area, Survey Compliance, Survey Status.
Note
If there are entries from 2011 in the latest PSCI grid, that would imply that this is the latest PSCI reading for that stretch of road.
They are invalid in that they fall outside the window of what the department view as valid but technically they are valid readings.
To this end, there may be “old” pieces of PSCI Survey viable. These could be due to gaps in later surveys or changes in the road network
(e.g. junction realignments, removal/addition of roundabouts and staggered junctions), which could lead to the transfer of PSCI surveys having small gaps.
